The Calgary Polocrosse Club was originally formed in 2001, and since then has formed three separate branches: Foothills Polocrosse Club, Millarville Polocrosse Club and the Polocrosse Calgary. Together, the clubs make up Polocrosse Canada.

Polocrosse Calgary currently makes it's home at Zeus Acres, an 140 acre haven just west of the City of Calgary, still within city limits. Our home field is located within Glenmore city park in south west Calgary near Glenmore Reservoir.

The Latest News

August 23, 2008

Well it has truly been a whirlwind of activity for us this year! It has also been VERY successful. It all started with the Stampede Parade. We had had great representation with folk from USA, Australia and of course all of Polocrosse Calgary Club as well as 1 rider from Millarville Club and 1 from Foothills. We were awarded for our efforts with 2nd prize in the mounted color portion of the parade and brought home a cheque for $200!

We headed straight from the parade off to "The Stampede Classic" tournament at Foothills. Our club went very well at this tournament taking home several prizes. Isabelle Ladiges took home "Best Rookie" and Shelby Richardson took home the "Sportsmanship" Award. We also won the "B" grade division as well as taking home some 2nd's and 3rd's in the both "A" and "C"....

We had 10 days off and then headed down the road again to Washington to play in our first "Test Match" against USA. Our team played their hearts out and did well but not good enough to win this time! A big pat on the back to Shelby Richardson, Meghan McGovern, Allison Cully, Sam Darmody, Simon Parkinson and Anna McLeish on a job well done. These big games only help to push up our skills so USA better look out for us next year! Simon Parkinson won "Best Player" and "Slipper" won "Best Horse". We awarded Dori and her horse "Best Horse" and "Best Player".

Following the "Test Match" we all played in "The Ranier Classic" and again our club came through with flying colors. Such great effort was put forth by all that traveled down. A huge Thanks goes out to everyone for working so hard to pull this trip off. Because of everyone's effort we were able to do so well, even with having several lame horses we did wonderfully. It was just fantastic having such a great group down to help with EVERYTHING that popped up. Thank you to Terry Fulwood for coaching as well as all the help provided by Peter Ladiges, Cathy Ladiges, Christine Thompson, Claudette Shaw, both Samantha's mom and sister for the Canadian Flag and goodies and of course Garnet Lowe for hosting the "Lowe's kitchen. Several lived at that camper. Good job all! We left this tournament with a win in "B" and 2nd in "A", "B" and "C". In this tournament "Lesley Plant" won best "B" player with "Twiggy" winning "Best Horse". "Blue" won "Best Horse" in "C".

Thankfully we had a few weeks to recuperate from this very long trip to Washington before our next tourney...

Another very good sized group headed down to the "HickCUP this past weekend where a great time was had by all. We again left this tournament doing very well. We had Shelby Richardson, Meghan McGovern and Allison Cully playing up in the "A" division which was tough pitting teammates against one another but they all played so well and I know that their coaches are VERY proud of their efforts. Well done girls! Meghan's section came out on top to win "A" playing with Kayla and Renee Hicks. Second place went to Allison Cully's section and third to Shelby's section. These games were so close I have never seen such well matched teams. We took home a first in "B" as well as "C". If that were not enough our club also had Dayton Graham winning "Best Horse and Rider" team in "B" and Isabelle Ladiges winning the same in "C".

Again a fantastic effort was put forth by all team members as well as friends and family of Polocrosse Calgary to get everything done and organized. Our club will continue to operate well if everyone is always putting forth their best foot and keeping the doors of communication open. Thanks to all again to help "get the job done"!

Our next effort is our very first and own true Polocrosse Jackpot to be held Saturday September 6, 2008. Entries will be added to the website so they can be returned electronically. We are all excited and look forward to everyone helping with work-bees, donations and efforts to finish off with the same sort of zest we've had for the season so far. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any ideas or input you may have! All is welcome.

Lesley :)
